How do you write a football CV?
A football CV should show, in this order: your name, position, age, height, foot and passports; your contract status; your career by season with clubs, leagues, appearances and minutes; a link to a highlights video; and how to contact you or your agent. Keep it to one page and make every figure checkable.

What a club looks at first
A sporting director reads dozens of CVs. They want to know in a few seconds whether you could fit. Put the answers to their first questions at the top.
- Position, and second position if you have one.
- Age, height and stronger foot.
- Passports. An EU passport, or one that does not count as foreign in that league, can decide a signing.
- Contract status: free agent, or under contract until when.
Your career
List each season with the club, the league, appearances, minutes, goals and assists. Minutes matter more than appearances: they show whether you started. Use the same figures as your Transfermarkt profile, because a club will check it.
Video
Link a highlights video of three to five minutes from your last season, plus one or two full matches if you have them. Our article on what clubs look for in a highlights video covers what to include.
Mistakes to avoid
- Figures that do not match Transfermarkt.
- No date on the video, or clips from years ago.
- A long personal statement before the facts.
- No contact details, or several different ones.
- A file attachment only. Send a link a club can open on a phone.
A CV that builds itself
On FTBL Exchange a player pastes his Transfermarkt link and a highlights video. Once a person approves it, the profile builds itself from his record, and he gets one link to send to any club or agent.
You should not need an agent to be seen.
Paste your Transfermarkt link and a highlights video. Once a person approves it, your profile builds itself, and you can apply to open requests.

Questions people also ask
Should a football CV include a photo?
Yes, a clear recent photo, ideally in kit. It helps a club remember you.
Do I need a Transfermarkt profile?
Clubs will look for one. If you do not have one, they can be requested through Transfermarkt. On FTBL Exchange a Transfermarkt profile is required, because the profile is built from it.
